Analysis of a News Package

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehnX2UuZ-bI

This news story was talking about Trump’s Day-one plans for China which was a very heavy topic at the time so there were lots of different stories about him.

This is a very typical news set-up where there is someone in the studio who is talking about the basics of what the story is about with images in the background to keep audiences interested. The intro is short and only lasts 24 seconds which is good as it means the audience is getting the information quickly.  This doesn’t mean that they get less information however, because they then see images relating to the story.

We hear a voice over, over the top of some videos of something relating to the story.  This is to show how real the story is and make it more reliable to the audience as ITV have gone to where this is happening to document it.

Then we will often see a news presenter talking at the place the news story is about which will portray high news values.  This shows timeliness because they have heard about a news story and have organised for correspondents to be at the place in time for the story to be relevant.

Then we see a few interviews usually, with people who are well informed on what the story is about.

To end the story, we usually see a few shots similar to this with a voice over rounding it off.

We are going to use similar tropes like the ones found in this news package in ours to make it feel as professional as possible.  We are going to start and end in a studio, we are going to interview and hopefully get some vox-pops.
