Script to Screen - Blog Post 1
Role Research
Director
Through my research I found out that a director is the creative lead of a film and they hold the
creative vision for it. They work with the screenwriter and sometimes the script editing team
at the start and then start to work with the producer and all heads of departments.
I found out that the director's process is to start with a script, then they imagine the script in visual form and how they want it to look. They will then storyboard for the rest of the crew to see their vision in order to all understand the goal and be on the same page so the production runs smoothly. They will then work with producers and casting directors and director of photography to develop filming style. They will also work with lighting, wardrobe and make-up. At the end they will do a "director's cut" that will be reviewed by producers and financiers before signing off the final cut.
A director needs to be good at leadership, imagination, arts knowledge, production and they need to be able to remain calm under pressure.
